Education for Indian culture is not just to acquire skills. One can learn skills from YouTube too. So many of kids nowadays learn online. Purpose of education is not just to acquire skill. The sublime purpose of education is to prepare this existence as pancha-kosha for self-realization i.e. आत्म साक्षात्कार!
How Oral education helps? Why scriptures to be memorized?
Scriptures are intuitive realizations of seers -> Activates same nerve centers in brain as they were active in Rishis while they received knowledge from the universe -> Helps to become expert in related mundane physical skills.
For example, not every one could be seers in this birth. Not everyone can receive knowledge of Sanskrit grammar rules from the Sun like Bhagwan Panini did. However, by memorizing the formulas given by him, one can surely activate the brain circuits to support the mind expanded by the memorization of formulas.
One more example to understand this : Why Mathematics is taught to Engineering Students in all semesters? Mathematics is a tool to activate and exercise brain so that it can grasp mathematical applications in engineering. Or can use mathematics to solve complex engineering problems. By not knowing mathematics, how will you work on Machine learning, search algorithms and so on?
Similarly, memorizing scriptures is very efficient tool to activate and exercise brain and make it ready for self-realization.
