“Supply chain” is the fancy word we now use routinely. Ideally, Food Supply Chain should be limited to 100 to 150 km radius from your residence. But since we are all-time greedy for exotic food (food that is not local). Food production was the dominant focus of human activities, with most of the time and labor assigned to growing, harvesting, processing, and preparing food. Till last century, all these activities were local in nature but now it all time oil dependent.
It is estimated that the meals in the United States travel about 2400 kilometers to get from farm to plate. And since we are replicating same behavior here, we too have same consumer attitude.
