Flu is again in the news. Like last outbreak, this too is over-hyped. More people die due to other causes like Cancer, Diabetes, Heart stroke, brain stroke individual cause compare to flu. Yes, some people do die due to flu. But that does not mean we should live life under constant fear. That does not mean Govt should promote stupid fear mongering.

Most symptoms are the same as seasonal flu. They can include:
• cough
• fever
• sore throat
• stuffy or runny nose
• body aches
• headache
• chills
• fatigue
• shortness of breath, severe vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, or confusion

In short, Upper respiratory track (URT) is under severe stress and that sometimes results into fatality.

As per Ayurveda, there are principle 7 types of Prana working in Pranamay kosh of the body. Out of 7, Prana (प्राण) is most important प्राणिक movement. Prana (प्राण)’s seat is in head or brain but its working area is URT i.e. chest, throat, ears, nose, heart.

Prana is the life energy. It helps in respiration, oxygenation and circulation/transport of food to cells. It also governs motor and sensory responses. It also enkindles body’s Fire. Natural intelligence of the body is reflected by प्राणमय शरीर. Modern science flight or fight response is natural intelligence exhibited by Prana. When a child is deficient of Iron, प्राणमय शरीर will force him/her to eat mud. That is innate intelligence of the body. Similarly, when प्राणमय शरीर is devoid of Prana, you get signals for rest by yawning. Yawning is a sign of healthy body/ intelligence. Rest replenish Prana. Rest in highly ventilated rest rooms and not fully AC homes   . Most of us in urban rat race, ignore this intelligence signals and hence situation becomes worse with time.

When प्राणिक movement is disturbed or compromised supply of Prana (प्राण) from outside body by respiration, body cells under the jurisdiction of URT organs feel stress. Sometimes, stress is very severe. And when the Manomay sharir or mind is weak, it may turn fetal. We call it Swine Flu.
This stress is natural for many of during end of the winter and post monsoon. During this time, one needs to put efforts for respiration. In urban areas, it becomes more difficult due to pollution. Those with inefficient respiration, will be low on Prana for long. May be entire winter.

This stress results into viral fever by the end of Winter.

How to prevent flu?
– Increase efficiency of your respiration. Must do exercise from the onset of winter (Post Diwali).
– Respiration does not only happen by breathing in and out. Skin also does it. Do oil massage for entire winter. This is maintains skin’s ability to absorb Prana from the odds.
– Winter is a season of fruits. Eat them fresh. Eat locally produced. Eat organic. They are full of prana (They call it antioxidants  )
– Collect pure desi breed’s Gau’s milk and drink it with turmeric 2 times a day. This is immune booster. A kind of vaccine for your understanding.
– Desi gau’s ghee : Medicated with Brahmi (it is coolant against inflammation in URT) – two drops in nose 2 times a day. This is full of Prana. Replenish seat of prana in brain. Good for migraine, asthama and insomnia too. If brahmi source is not available, only ghee is also fine. Take medicine quantity, warm it up little and use it as nasal drops.
– Avoid pollution as much as possible.
– Purify home environment using Havan/Homa using Cow dung cake, ghee. Do Ajwain dhoop. Increase Prana locally against the environmental odds (Pollution, Season change)
– End of Winter and Start of Spring (ऋतु संधि काल) – Your body is not yet ready for वसंत but mind is already under control of Season. This is the time when भीष्म (Symbol of effortless celibacy) अष्टमी falls. Wait for few days. Observe celibacy. Excessive sex will decrease Prana. Prone to flu. Let the spring in full bloom! That is ideal time for progeny generation.
– Eat pro-biotic food so that bacteria helps in Prana replenishment. Ghee, Dahi, Chaas, Honey, Jaggery.
– Do Tulsi pooja. Do Peepal pooja. Spend time with them.

Above all – Ignore Media and Govt as they are agents of fear mongering. They get cuts from pharma companies to promote useless Tamiflu and flu vaccines.
