For last 9 months, I avoided writing about microbes and viruses (which is my subject of interest and have written about it in past 10 years extensively).
During the peak of the pandemic, more than scientific facts, fear, panic, sentiments ruled. There is still lot confusion among medical fraternity about right set of protocol. Even people whom I knew in real life, thought that I write for popularity and all and decided to distance. So kept silence about this area.
Yes, we all had terrible loss in terms of near and dear ones. Loss that we cannot revive in this lifetime. We can only pray for their well-being in other worlds or next births. May they all have auspicious life ahead and they keep inspiring us by their thoughts and memories. We all should do Pitru Tarpana for them during this time!
Moving forward, we should learn from our past pandemic handling experiences. Primarily, unless it is immensely powerful toxin or our immunity is severely compromised, our body has all immune tricks to combat foreign particles in name of viruses and bacteria. one thing we must do is – avoid fear and panic. Panic and fear drastically reduce immunity. So, avoid panic, even in middle of the peak of the pandemic! Stay calm and do Vishnu name japa!
Let us also think about long term strategies. Think about the figure shared in the picture. Tip of the pen can hold 5 billion bacteria. 10x more viruses! We cannot combat them with trial and error for long.
Focus on the last line:
A noble king once had a pet monkey whom he trained to swing a fan for him while he slept in the afternoon. The monkey too adored his master very much and swung the fan for him daily. One day, while the king slept, a fly flew in and sat over his stomach. The monkey swooshed it away. The incorrigible fly zinged back over his shoulder. The annoyed monkey flipped it away once again. But the fly kept whizzing around and sitting over him repeatedly. The monkey had had enough shortly and this time, when the fly landed on the king’s throat, the obedient pet drew his master’s sword placed near the pillow and swung it to kill the fly finally. Off came the king’s head in one clean stroke.

Our science is doing similar monkey acts through our intellect and actions. Instead of focusing on protecting and restoring ecology whose destruction is causing increased havoc in human lives, we are focusing on finding one more virus, one more antidote and vaccine. Sheer lack of understanding about the wholeness and we are being part of it! Sheer greed and profit mongering.
Think about more positive community/family/individual level solutions instead of monkey acts.
