Every school child till 1980s used to learn that Bharat lived in its villages, a view sung by all our scriptures.
Now, your kid, learns that India has moved on to the shopping malls and her nature is evaluated by television, whatsapp and stock values. For your kid living and growing in city, Bharat had died with village culture long before her/his birth.
The massive wave of mindless growth and greed to get rich overnight has changed perception of youth in villages too. Thanks to urban dominated television programs and metro-centric public school education.
For your kid, life is elsewhere. Not where they are born. If they are from village, life is in metro. If they are from metro, life is in New York or London.
Your kid is now ashamed of family ties with rural India. They don’t like to visit village. Boredom captures their mind as soon as they enter village. They don’t receive joy and happiness while being in nature. Their joy and happiness is confined in 3×4 inches screen of gadget gifted by parents.
Do you think, this is good future? Destroying very sources of food production, art and culture of local villages and folk traditions?
You can stop it by reinstating love for culture and village in your kid. I know, it is tough job for city dweller parents but not impossible. Take it as a challenge. Nurture emotions and sensitivity towards, villages and Mother Nature in your kid for the sake of better Bharat.
What do you want from your kid?
A surrendered consumer and a slave citizen or a brave individual and an active citizen?
