Elephants threw out the morsels of food they had taken into their mouths. Cows did not give suck to their calves. Mother did not rejoice, for having got a son born for the first time.
Two points to ponder upon
1) In Sanatana Sanskruti, cow-calf live together. They are never separated. Milk-Greed does not exist in dharma-based society. Any description of cow without calf is adharmic.
2) Cows were deeply connected with the humans. They share emotions. They share grief as they are described in above stanza. There was no language barrier between humans and animals. (Unlike plain illogical Vegan sentiments against the nature and suggestion of abandoning cows to jungle)
