Can your neighboring village farmer grow Apples?
No.
Can he grow bananas?
Yes.
Pappaya?
Yes.
Cherry?
No.
So for you, “An apple a day keeps doctor away” is actually “A banana a day keeps doctor away” or “A Pappaya a day keeps doctor away”
Nature grows all your needs in your surroundings. Eat locally grown food. Our demand for Apples force farmers in Himachal and Kashmir to use deadly chemicals to increase production. This vicious cycle ruins their local environment and your stomach too. Since Apples travel thousand kms before they arrive at home, more chemicals are used to keep them fresh.
When nature grows everything for you in your surroundings, why strive for something foreign? When you visit Himachal, have as much apples you can. Even in Punjab and Haryana, it is fine. But having apples in Kerala is insult to coconut and banana. 🙂
Use common sense. Search your food from local soil.Reduce transportation burden, chemical burden and save environment and your health
