In Veda, मरुत(s), living in group are described as Army soldiers. Having same uniform, same color, same ornaments and same transport medium.
Marut Devata on Aadhibhautik plane, are nothing but people with special characteristics. These traits matches with Army personals. Foot solders.
The following quotations are taken from Daivata Samhita edited by Shripada Damodara Satavalekar (1941 Edn.). Some of the meanings given to Marut are as under:
- (i) One who fights war “without tears” (Mā + Rud).
- (ii) One who gets up and fights till death (Mara + Ut).
- (iii) One who speaks less (Mā + Rut).
- (iv) Those who live in groups (गणशो हि मरुत:) Tandya B. 19/14/2).
- (v) These who are agriculturists.
- (vi) Those who are soldiers of Indra.
Their Characteristics
- (i) They do not care about their bodies. (तनूषु न कि: येतिरे Rig. 8/22/12).
- (ii) They decorate their bodies with strange ornaments. (चित्रै: अञ्जिभि: Rig. 1/64/4),
