अर्थात् शरीर और स्वास्थ्य को स्थिर, सुदृढ़ और उत्तम बनाये रखने के लिए आहार, स्वप्न (निद्रा) और ब्रह्मचर्य – ये तीन उपस्तम्भ हैं। ‘उप’ यानी सहायक और ‘स्तम्भ’ यानी खम्भा। इन तीनों उप स्तम्भों का यथा विधि सेवन करने से ही शरीर और स्वास्थ्य की रक्षा होती है।

अर्थात् धी (बुद्धि), धृति (धैर्य) और स्मृति (स्मरण शक्ति) के भ्रष्ट हो जाने पर मनुष्य जब अशुभ कर्म करता है तब सभी शारीरिक और मानसिक दोष प्रकुपित हो जाते हैं। इन अशुभ कर्मों को प्रज्ञापराध कहा जाता है। जो प्रज्ञापराध करेगा उसके शरीर और स्वास्थ्य की हानि होगी और वह रोगग्रस्त हो ही जाएगा।

If there is sickness, man would jump between sleep and food, try to correct them, but will hardly pay attention to Brahmcharya :). Such is the shoddy state of our modern living. Think about it.

Why Hanuman as Ideal Role Model for Youth?


Teen age is an age of imitation. In this age, mind seeks Role Model to follow and imitate. What is right and wrong is least concerned for teen age. And once the attitude towards life is set, it remains same forever. I see 70+ old with lust in eyes. Reason?

Despite theoretical postulations that individuals’ conformity to masculine norms is differentially related to mental health-related outcomes depending on a variety of contexts, there has not been any systematic synthesis of the empirical research on this topic. Therefore, the authors of this study conducted meta-analyses of the relationships between conformity to masculine norms (as measured by the Conformity to Masculine Norms Inventory-94 and other versions of this scale) and mental health-related outcomes using 78 samples and 19,453 participants. Conformity to masculine norms was modestly and unfavorably associated with mental health as well as moderately and unfavorably related to psychological help seeking. The authors also identified several moderation effects. Conformity to masculine norms was more strongly correlated with negative social functioning than with psychological indicators of negative mental health. Conformity to the specific masculine norms of self-reliance, power over women, and playboy were unfavorably, robustly, and consistently related to mental health-related outcomes, whereas conformity to the masculine norm of primacy of work was not significantly related to any mental health-related outcome. These findings highlight the need for researchers to disaggregate the generic construct of conformity to masculine norms and to focus instead on specific dimensions of masculine norms and their differential associations with other outcomes. Scripturally and traditionally speaking, Sri Hanuman is always eulogized as an eternal brahmacharin. A brahmacharin is one who controls his senses in order to reach Brahman or the Supreme Being. At a more common level of definition, a brahmacharin is one who controls his passions or sex instincts and transmutes or sublimates these thoughts and energies into resources that are capable of giving him the highest realization of God. In the case of Sri Hanuman, He is not a spiritual aspirant striving to practice brahmacharya. He has already attained mastery in this field. He epitomizes excellence and the ultimate maturity in brahmacharya. It gives us the necessary purity which is the basis of spiritual life. No impure person can be spiritual.
How did Hanuman become a Mahavir? It is with this weapon of Brahmacharya that he acquired unsurpassable strength and velour.
If not him, keeping him in mind, we must strive to become micro version of Hanuman!!

The one who performs sexual abstinence. That is it? That is so narrow definition as for us, we also have Grihastha brahmachari.

This particular verse is from Brahmchari Sukta. It describes obligatory duties of Brahmchari. Brahmchari is the one who is ever toiling(साधना) for expanding his consciousness to merge self in God-consciousness.

ब्रह्म means growth, knowledge, value and nectar
चारिन् means to act, conduct, behavior.

ब्रह्मचारी is always engrossed in conducts that promotes growth, knowledge, values and nectar (Bliss)

So what does he do to achieve this?

अपनी अभिवृद्धिकी इच्छा रखनेवाला पुरुष अपने वातावरणको अनुकूल बनाकर अपना व्यवहार करता है|
ब्रह्मचारी, the one who is steadfast in spiritual progress, works to make his environment propitious and favorable for effortless living. So that he can focus on his goals.

Do we strive to make our surroundings pure? Can we adjust ourselves with environment until we change it for better?

Do not live in friction. Save your senses from unnecessary fiction. Live pure, strive for pure.

Generally I do not discuss this topic but I think it is important to discuss as many columnists lately wrote in support of disgusting personal habit. (Chetan Bhagat ilk).

As per Ayurveda, our body is maintained by Kapha, Pitta and Vayu. Vayu takes care of input/output functions. All our mental abilities depend upon stable Vayu in body. Elimination of waste is also important and it depends upon the force of the vayu.

Balloon takes shape based on air filled. Asthi or bones take shape as per vata’s seat in it. With growing age, this vata deranges and body deforms. No cream can hide aging deformity. You can only slowdown aging by positive life norms. Sadly, more and more Indians are now under vata prakop irrespective of season.

Orgasm demands high contribution of vata. With excess sex(even thinking about it), you loose vata in bones and elsewhere. Further accelerating aging. Youth under the media and cinema is under toxic indulgence state. So like all other addictions, this addiction is contributing in rapid aging of youth.

Food is contaminated with chemicals so more Apana Vayu is wasted in purging them out. Overtime working for it!

Stress is of highest level in modern society so body’s compromised functioning generates more toxins. Again too much work for Apana Vayu.

Excretion of waste is very important in any system. Our प्राण, named अपान, takes care of our Body’s material needs and at the same time maintains all outward forces i.e. excretions. It works selflessly, tirelessly 24×7 for your Body’s sustenance, dividing tasks among excretion of मल(Stool), मूत्र(Urine) ,शुक्र(Sperm/Ovum), गर्भ(Fetus) और आर्तव(Menstrual waste).

During delivery of a child, अपान gives total focus on most critical task on hand i.e. contraction of Uterus, movement of pelvic, vaginal opening etc. Due to this over-focus on one task, rest of the tasks find little attention from अपान and hence there is a chance of hampered functioning of Excretion of stool and urine. And this is evident as it is observed by irregular bowel movements during Postpartum period.

Following pregnancy and childbirth, some women experience the following symptoms:
• Bowel urgency: Strong urges to defecate, with a feeling of an immediate need to get to a toilet.
• Passive fecal incontinence: Stool leaks out without one knowing.
• Urge fecal incontinence: Awareness of urge to defecate, but stool leaks out before one is safely on a toilet.
• Post-defecation leakage: Stool leaks out after a bowel movement. This is the rarest of all fecal incontinence symptoms.

Above normal scenario is mentioned to explain importance of ब्रह्मचर्य. If ब्रह्मचर्य is not followed, and sex is performed without any control, अपान will work tirelessly for your mindless lust and so other functions are severely impacted. When you are student, you cannot focus on learning when your stool and urine are not in harmony. Irregular stool and urine means indigestion. Indigestion means malnutrition. With mal-nourished brain, student cannot reach their highest possible realization state. Indigestion also mean toxicity. Toxicity – > Rapid ageing. I see many in 20s looking elder than me. Needless to mention reason.

This is just one aspect why ब्रह्मचर्य is important. There are other aspects too like excessive neural activities, reduction of शुक्र ओजस (Not sperm!), mental chaos etc.
