How do we use Yoga? As a way of aerobic exercise or life transforming way?

Most of us use Yoga as mere exercise. Yet another form of aerobic exercise. Nothing wrong in it. There will be benefits as there is activity.

But in our culture, we don’t do any activity without purpose. And no ritual begins without purpose and संकल्प (personal will to get desired output by activity). And this purpose is always in sync with each ritual’s prescribed purpose.

Reason for such limited scope of Yoga is our education.

“शिक्षण एवं शिक्षणेतर प्रवर्तमान जीवन शैली ने, अात्मिक विकास को सर्वथा अनावश्यक करार दिया है । ज़ादा से ज़ादा Relaxation, De-stressing, या Heath-tonicजैसी उपयुक्ततावादी दृष्टि से, अथवा Fashion के तौर पर Meditation किया/कराया जाता है । पर अांतरिक विकास में तो “बुद्धि” के कुछ एक मर्यादित विकास को छोडकर अन्य किसी भी इंद्रिय की ओर ध्यान नहीं दिया जाता । “मन” को Physiological ठहराकर उसकी क्षमताओं और उनके विकास की ओर दुर्लक्ष किया जाता है । हर क्षमता को केवल दवाईयों के ज़रीये ठीक करनेका प्रयत्न दिखायी पडता है । ”

This is the core. Learn Yoga for not mere physical benefits. With sick mind, there will be no long term physical benefits. 🙂 Take care of mind by meditation.
