I often get genuine queries about Surya-Upasana & Homa.

Why Brahmcharya? Why Surya-Namaskar? Why प्राण उपासना / प्राणायाम? Why moderate eating? Why regular fasting?

Here is the reason.

अपश्यं गोपामनिपद्यमानमा, च परा च पथिभिश्चरन्तम। स सध्रीचीः स विषूचीर्वसा न आवरीवर्ति भुवनेष्यन्तः॥ (ऋग्. 1-164-31)

“मैंने प्राणों को देखा है- साक्षात्कार किया है। यह प्राण सब इन्द्रियों का रक्षक है। यह कभी नष्ट होने वाला नहीं है। यह भिन्न-भिन्न मार्गों अर्थात् नाड़ियों से आता जाता है। मुख और नासिका द्वारा क्षण-क्षण में इस शरीर में आता है और फिर बाहर चला जाता है। यह प्राण शरीर में वायु रूप में है पर अधिदैवत रूप से यह सूर्य है।”

It is प्राण that sustains the अन्नमय कोष (Physical body). It is प्राण that manifests good bacteria as modern medicine describes. It is प्राण that is immune intelligence. It is प्राण that is power-house for cells.

Preserve by reducing waste (Maithun, Eating, Over-indulgence of senses)
Store by Upasana, Pranayama, Exercise.

The caveat is, Prana in our outer-body, our environment is consumed by the toxic pollutants in air, water and food. So very little Prana remains for us.

More than any yuga, this is the time when we must cultivate habit of preserving Prana and efficient way to store it.
