Consumerism

MoreMore

When we talk about consumerism, major focus should be on teens and youth. They are the larger segment of society with high consuming rate. And for them, it is not just the number of choices that has increased exponentially, it is also the strength and number of outside influences on our decisions that has increased.

An average teen when joins collage, he or she is under tremendous social pressure to remain in trend. A trend marketed by PR agencies of many useless products.

Since education does not train growing minds a discriminatory power to select right from all fakes, it becomes difficult to resist and surrender is natural choice. Once surrender to remain in trend, slowly, we lose our ability to filter what is important and what isn’t. Psychologists call this “decision fatigue”: the more choices we are forced to make, the more the quality of our decisions deteriorates.

Social pressure + Tsunami of choices – Lack of life oriented education = Slavish consumer who earn to spend and contribute in ecological damage for all and virtual profit for few.
