RSA-DISORDER

I coined this term RSA (Red spot anxiety) years back. When I shared it here last month, few readers said that it is outcome of my mind, not universal thing.

Reproducing it here :

New addictions introduces new form of disorders. Addicted human mind suffers from one or another mental disorder. Some of these disorders hamper physiological conditions and may develop physical diseases.

This is new form of anxiety disorder emerged in society. I named it the red spot anxiety (RSA disorder). Anxiety about waiting for arrival of yet another notification. It is evolved form of anticipatory anxiety. Anticipatory anxiety is where a person experiences increased levels of anxiety by thinking about an event or situation in the future. Rather than being a specific disorder in its own right, anticipatory anxiety is an early symptom indicator of developing form of more chronic mental disorder.
RSA disorder can be detected when you see victim’s increase of attention, apprehension, restlessness towards online social networks. Victim will neglect real life events and will constantly awaiting for yet another RED indicator on mobile app/desktop app.

During RSA disorder, a person’s body may be habitually tense, waiting for the event in virtual world. This can also have a disabling effect, since having a tense body may actually lead to problems such as hyperventilation, chest pain and muscle spasm. RSA disorder may also shape behavior in hopes of avoiding a return of symptoms.
Physical effects of RSA disorder are worrisome. Rapid heartbeat,Shortness of breath,Dizziness,Upset stomach,Numbness or tingling,Hot flashes or cold chills are few apparent signs. Irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia (upset stomach) are intermediate signs. Deeper, this disorder can lead to severe gastrointestinal disorders.

In these disorders, the nerves regulating digestion appear to be hypersensitive to stimulation. Because these conditions don’t produce lesions like ulcers or tumors.
Although results vary, most studies have found a high rate of anxiety symptoms and panic attacks in patients who have chronic respiratory disease, with women at greater risk than men. In several studies involving COPD patients, anxiety has been associated with more frequent hospitalization and with more severe distress at every level of lung function.

Anxiety disorders have also been linked to the development of heart disease and to coronary events in people who already have heart disease. In the Nurses’ Health Study, women with the highest levels of phobic anxiety were 59% more likely to have a heart attack, and 31% more likely to die from one, than women with the lowest anxiety levels.

In short, your social network addiction can lead you to severe life style diseases. Go to nearby college or school, railway station, mall, multiplex, you will see so many teenagers exhibiting symptoms of RSA disorder.

How Social media addiction can disturb your mental state.

According to University of Houston (UH) researcher Mai-Ly Steers, this kind of social comparison paired with the amount of time spent on Facebook may be linked to depressive symptoms.

“One danger is that Facebook often gives us information about our friends that we are not normally privy to, which gives us even more opportunities to socially compare,” Steers said. “You can’t really control the impulse to compare because you never know what your friends are going to post. In addition, most of our Facebook friends tend to post about the good things that occur in their lives, while leaving out the bad. If we’re comparing ourselves to our friends’ ‘highlight reels,’ this may lead us to think their lives are better than they actually are and conversely, make us feel worse about our own lives.”

Any addiction is fatal for mental help. This too can damage. Esp if you are neoteny (Adult with childish mindset/Teenage mindset, never actually grew up mentally. For example, sports watcher on TV, the one who loves cartoons, selfie addict etc)
