God is not one who will walk behind guiding you like cows with a stick. But God gives intelligence (to solve problems by oneself) to one whom god wishes to protect.

(Thank you Aparna ji for sharing this quote)
—————–
Like how Murph was guided by her dad from fifth dimension (Gravity anomaly), all our forefathers too influence us, in positive or negative manner, based on their innate nature. Like Murph’s library (information) ghost, there is parental influence on our personality. I understand it as ‘Pitru Rina-पितृ रुण’ or relation with forefathers which influences our thoughts and actions.

Not only forefathers, singular consciousness or God guide us. All our thoughts, insights, inspirations, opportunities, situations in favor of societal transformation, selfless actions are sent to this universe from the other world. Who sent it? “They” as movie interstellar talks about.

Some of us use words like ‘Genetic imprints’ or ‘Heredity’ to explain forefathers influence. But in my understanding, this exchange of information does not happen just on physical plane, like it is shown in movie, but is a subject of mental plane. To receive potent hints, we must first clean and condition our minds so that we can receive the hints, decipher them (Like Murph did) and use the wise advises for the welfare of the family, society and the universe.

There are several rituals in the culture of this land (Not sure about other cultures, there may be similar rituals. Subject of research.), to purify mind. Most popular is Yoga. It helps in mind purification which can lead to life sustaining actions. Mind becomes more receptive for deciphering guidance sent from fifth dimension 🙂. It is different thing that rituals have become mechanical, devoid of real purpose.

I do not deny scientific way to explain interstellar. But this is also interesting aspect if you wish to ponder upon. Think about it. Even if you are non-believer or atheist, forefathers influence does impact. Think about it. Take care. (Y)

Crow : Wavering Mind Legacy

Wavering Mind
Wavering Mind

Young friend asked: “Why only offer food to Crow in Shradhdh paksha?”

It is not fixed that you offer food to only crow. Crow represents the weaknesses you received in legacy. It is to tame the Crow-legacy received.

We do not only receive physical body as legacy but also other parts of body (Refer: Panchkoshiya Sharir) from maternal and paternal seeds.

Manomay Kosha of our ancestors may have imprints of wavering nature due to their limitations or circumstances (or any other mental disorder of varied degree). The crow or कौआ is your Manomay sharir’s legacy defect, which represents चलद्रष्टि (wavering mind) predominantly. Everyone suffers from चलद्रष्टि of different intensity. Vata + Tamas type suffer more.

This is the time to take care of this defect and overcome it.

Since we cannot imagine anything without reference, it is important to feed Crow during this time of the year so that we can be reminded about wavering nature of our mind and immediate control over it.

As long as offering is concerned, this is what Vayu Puran has to say:

After death, as per karmic account or गुप्तचित्र, we receive different गति. कोई देवता तो कोई पितर तो कोई प्रेत तो कोई प्राणी तो कोई वृक्ष बनता है.. कुछ न कुछ तो बनता ही है..या बनने के समयकी राह देख रहा होता है..(trapped in time).
So how really my tarpan reaches to my ancestors?
The food is not just physical form (अन्नमय). It is after ritual performed, layer of your मनोमय, प्राणमय, विज्ञानमय & आनंदमय शरीर. So based on the योनी where ancestor is right now, different form reaches to them by various cycles of transformation of पिंड offered.
The way calf finds out her mother out of 1000s of Gaiya(s), same way with proper नाम,गोत्र, श्रध्धा & मंत्र , whatever is offered, reaches to all different ancestors.

Pitru Tarpana and Epigenetics

Tarpana
Tarpana

Heredity – “The biological process whereby genetic factors are transmitted from one generation to the next”

Epigenetic – arising from non-genetic external factors

If genes work as per environment, epigenetically, heredity too is environmental and not genetical.

So diabetes or any xyz body/mental condition is not because of genes but environment.

Subtly, our Pitru legacy is also part of environment and not part of genes (and so it is spiritual ritual and not just medical procedure).

Tarpana vidhi helps you to negate negative effects of environmental legacy.

PS: Talking about subtle environment when I consider heredity as environmental. Several set of genes are transmitted from our paternal and maternal lines. Beyond physical form i.e. air, water and solid.

Epigenetics: A Turning Point in Our Understanding of Heredity

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/epigenetics-a-turning-point-in-our-understanding-of-heredity/

In a study published in late 2011 in Nature, Stanford University geneticist Anne Brunet and colleagues described a series of experiments that caused nematodes raised under the same environmental conditions to experience dramatically different lifespans. Some individuals were exceptionally long-lived, and their descendants, through three generations, also enjoyed long lives. Clearly, the longevity advantage was inherited. And yet, the worms, both short- and long-lived, were genetically identical.

Pitru Paksha : The ultimate and madatory give back

0

In consumer society, mass-attitude is to consume. Giving back is mere show off business organized by some charity organizations.

We consume all natural resources at rocket speed without ever engaging in giving back. This is fundamental root cause of all our personal miseries. It is also reason behind imbalance we see in our environment. Of course, mother takes care of balance but you cannot predict her method. It can be natural calamity or your death.

Life lived for self, without giving back is life wasted. Do not waste your life. Start giving back to nature. Stop using non-sustainable life style. Step by step, mold your life in such a way that you reduce consuming (Thief as per Bhagwad Gita) attitude of self and other family members.

The Thief

Deva, Rishi and Pitru – they all without any order sustain our existence and provides ample opportunities/hints for self-realization. We are indebted to them. So in response, those who only consume these opportunities/hints/material for sensual gratification and never show respect/gratitude/reverence for them, are thieves.

We owe this body to our parents and all ancestors. It is they who have fostered us by being a instrumental in this great grand game called Samsar. Our knowledge or perceptions are due to fine tuned support of Rishi Gana (Senses). Devas provides us sharir to perform duties.

In short, body, senses, mind, intellect – they are not ours, these came from the world. Utilizing someone’s gifts for personal worldly pleasures lead us to bondage. To break this bondage, it is necessary to utilize this body in service of the world.

To reduce the debt of the Pitru, we perform tarpana. To sacrifice legacy desires, we perform pitru yajna.

Tarpanam
Tarpanam

Pitru Tarpana is one critical ritual. When it is not performed, karmic debt is kept increasing. Bondage becomes stronger. This lead to miseries of the life.

What a blunder, we commit when we regard the objects, such as the body etc., as ours!

Can we change them, as we desire?

Can we possess them as long as we desire?

Can we maintain them, and carry them with us?

Avoid blunders. 😀

Begin your spiritual journey by thanking pitru(s).

Sharad Ritu and Pitru Paksha: Ancient Viral Invaders in Our DNA Help Fight Today’s Infections

Ever wondered why श्राद्ध पक्ष fall in to शरद ऋतू?

Ever wondered how remembering and paying homage to our ancestors help us?

There are several reasons why we remember and worship our ancestors during this time of the year but I would like to focus on very gross reason.

Pitru Paksha
Pitru Paksha

Remember one thing: You and your body, is gift from last several generations. Your genetic imprints carry entire history of at least 7 generations. It has recording of environmental changes happened during 7 generations (from mother and father side). It also had instructions to tackle future.

Under the toxic influence of mass mediums like movies, newspapers and TV news, we now really don’t remember and respect our ancestors.

श्राद्ध & पितृ तर्पण (tarapana) – We do it every year and get invisible help from ancestors legacy. This season (Sharad) is season of epidemics. It is also season when our immunity is all time low for the year due to vata prakop of monsoon. It is also now known fact that our mind drives and shapes body. So remembering 7 generations also activates memories (yeah, gross living won’t give that sensitivity but do perform pitru tarpana with faith!)

“Roughly eight percent of our DNA comes from viruses that infected our ancestors millions of years ago. New research by geneticists shows that more than an oddity, the viral DNA switches on genes responsible for initiating an immune response. When removed, the innate immune system — a first-responder to infection by pathogens including viruses — does not function properly. The study shows that viral DNA functions in our body by helping us fight infections.”

To activate or deactivate these genes is really a mental task. And a weak mind cannot receive help from the past. Nor the future can help.

The human innate immune system’s ability to defeat foreign invaders depends on a well-coordinated response. Upon infection, cells dispatch a silent alarm by releasing interferons, a molecular signal that triggers nearby cells to activate an arsenal of hundreds of genes that fight off intruders. By analyzing publicly available genomic datasets from human cells, the authors discovered thousands of endogenous retroviruses that appeared to be activated by interferons. However, because these retroviruses crash-landed into our genomes many millions of years ago, they have long lost the ability to produce infectious particles. One clue to a potential modern-day function of some of these interferon-inducible elements came from their location in the genome. Instead of being distributed randomly, they were enriched near genes with known functions in immunity.

“These were the first signs to us that some of these elements may be truly involved in switching on immunity genes,” says Feschotte who collaborated on the project with assistant professor of human genetics and co-senior author Nels Elde, Ph.D., and lead author Edward Chuong, Ph.D., a Jane Coffin Childs postdoctoral fellow.

To test whether the pieces of viral DNA were indeed important for immunity, the scientists used the gene-editing tool CRISPR/Cas9 in cell culture to remove one by one several of these viral sequences, each located near known immune genes.  In mutant cells lacking the foreign code the adjacent immune genes could not turn on properly in response to interferon, demonstrating that they act as virus-derived switches. Further, when cells lacking the viral DNA element near the AIM2 immune defense gene were infected with virus, their ability to execute an effective immune response was greatly reduced. Taken together, the results indicate that ancient viral DNA has become important for mounting a proper defense against today’s viral infections.

Regulatory evolution of innate immunity through co-option of endogenous retroviruses

Regulatory use of endogenous retroviruses

Mammalian genomes contain many endogenous retroviruses (ERVs), which have a range of evolutionary ages. The propagation and maintenance of these genetic elements have been attributed to their ability to contribute to gene regulation. Chuong et al.demonstrate that some ERV families are enriched in regulatory elements, so that they act as independently evolved enhancers for immune genes in both humans and mice (see the Perspective by Lynch). The analysis revealed a primate-specific element that orchestrates the transcriptional response to interferons. Selection can therefore act on selfish genetic elements to generate novel gene networks.

Abstract

Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are abundant in mammalian genomes and contain sequences modulating transcription. The impact of ERV propagation on the evolution of gene regulation remains poorly understood. We found that ERVs have shaped the evolution of a transcriptional network underlying the interferon (IFN) response, a major branch of innate immunity, and that lineage-specific ERVs have dispersed numerous IFN-inducible enhancers independently in diverse mammalian genomes. CRISPR-Cas9 deletion of a subset of these ERV elements in the human genome impaired expression of adjacent IFN-induced genes and revealed their involvement in the regulation of essential immune functions, including activation of the AIM2 inflammasome. Although these regulatory sequences likely arose in ancient viruses, they now constitute a dynamic reservoir of IFN-inducible enhancers fueling genetic innovation in mammalian immune defenses.
