At least शुण्ड-long breathing. That is when one can transcend Muladhara and uplift self from gross existence. It will take 1000 births to reach their with current pace. 🙂

Right one to balance the stupor ones.
Left one to balance hyper active ones.

How long the शुण्ड should be?

We will take reference from Shiva Swarodaya.

When we talk about Prana and breathing, it is more than air flowing through nostrils. It is about subtle flow. If you can master your breathing, you can realize the flow of Prana. And flow of prana is reflection of Aatma[1]

So by realizing flow of the prana, one can also reach one step closer to self-realization.

If you ever take time to observe the breathing, you will notice that respiration takes place by one nostril at a time. Either left or right will be active.

It is breathing that takes hints from cosmic Prana and instructs individual prana. From sickness to healing, breathing controls the fate.

It will take entire book to explain this in detail but we will focus on length for this note.

When you are examining alternate breath, at different time of the day, you will also notice change in the length of breath. Sometimes it is longer, sometimes shorter.

Distance is measured in ‘Finger length’

  • The natural length is 7-12 fingers.
  • During the state of emotions/excitement – 12-36
  • Singling – 16
  • Walking -24
  • Eating – 20
  • Sleeping – 30
  • Exercise – 36

When there is control over length, there are siddhi(s).

  • Expiration within 1 finger for continuous period = detachment
  • Expiration of breath within 2 finger – blissful state
  • Poetic abilities when it is 3 finger length
  • 5 fingers control gives foresight

Each cycle of breathing is also affected by 5 elements of which body is made. Each tattva has different influence on the breathe.  Each tattwa causes the air to flow from different angle and point in nostril. Even length of the breathe varies based on influence of the tattwa.

So when we worship Ganesha, we actually correct Earth element influence. It is the longest flow for one cycle of Swara/Breathe. (Active breathe flows from one nostril for 60 minutes. Out of which, Earth element has influence for 20 minutes.).

As per Puranic statements, Motherhood is the essential trait of divinity. अदिति is the eternal archetype of motherhood. She is ideal mother. She is great mother of devout, mighty and powerful, unaging, spacious, protecting and cleverly guiding. In Vedas, wherever Aditi is mentioned, her function has been to tenderly look after the living beings. She is the mother that child look ups up for allaying its fear. She is the mother to whom Aryan takes refuge for protection. Her motherhood gives her a natural sway over her children. Rishis depicts Aditi to bestow on men and Deva(s) all the tender care and protection which they(Rishi(s)) themselves received from her. She is the one who release men from guilt of sin and this is very much her nature as her name suggests. अदिति – अ-दिति unbinding, freedom, boundlessness.

अदिति – ७ मरुत पुत्र. In her womb, there was Indra too. He divided 7 Maruts into 7 so they became 49. In them, the मरुत्प्राण, one who represents Water or Earth element is गणपति. The one that represents Vayu or Agni, is महावीर हनुमान. In this way, गणेश & हनुमान are “मरुतो रुद्र -पुत्रास:” i.e. Rudra’s son.

A recent health survey revealed some startling facts — a whopping 46% of Indians, between the ages of 31 and 40, require medical intervention to conceive as one or both partners suffer from fertility problems. [0]

This is side effect of changing pattern of professions. More and more youth are not employed in sedentary job profile. They sit in front of computer for more than 8 hrs. This is bound to happen. On top of it, add regular alcohol, smoking, drugs.

Worship Ganesha and Maa Parvati. He is lord of fertility. She is shakti related to fertility. His seat in our body is Muladhar chakra. Energy center that governs area where reproductive organs rests.

Ganesha has pomegranate in his hands.Pomegranate in Sanskrit means Beejpur, literally; replete with seeds.It implies prosperity and fertility and is related with both Bhoomidevi (the earth goddess) and Lord Ganesha (who is also called Bijapuraphalasakta, or the one fond of the many-seeded fruit).

When you meditate on them, they activate dormant energy centers in your faulty reproductive organs and helps you to regain divine power of reproducing.

Side note: Just after worshiping Ganesha for 10 days, we will soon worship Maa Parvati for 10 days in Navratri (Mind you! It is most potent time of the year to worship maa Parvati!)

Eat Pomegranate in this season.This fruit is linked with fertility, birth, and eternal life, because of its many seeds.

In modern science lab, a significant decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) level and marked increases in glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT) activities, and vitamin C level were observed by regular intake of Pomegranate.Consumption provided an increase in epididymal sperm concentration, sperm motility, spermatogenic cell density and diameter of seminiferous tubules and germinal cell layer thickness, and it decreased abnormal sperm rate when compared to the control group. [1]

One common cause of infertility is obesity. Pomegranate intake reduces fat.Many of the beneficial effects are related to the presence of anthocyanins, tannins, very high levels of antioxidants, including polyphenols and flavonoids.[2]

Cherish your culture. Celebrate festivals connected with mother nature. Do not just celebrate festivals for fun. Try to follow spiritual instructions and worship God’s different form as per seasonal changes. Indwelling God will surely keep you healthy to perform your worldly duties towards self, family and nation.

I know our tendency. anything related to God, ignore. Though this post is about Lord Ganesha, I did not put his picture so that many of you read it 🙂.

Welcome to lord of beginning in our heart. May we become live example of गणपति.

During monsoon, our digestive power remains very low and so there are high chances that GUT remains polluted. So just when the monsoon is on the verge of end, we worship गणेश for 10 days.

गणपति resides in GUT area . And to worship him, we generally keep fast. Fasting clean the GUT and transforms it from GUTTER into Heaven. So clean GUT means right decisions, right actions and in real sense गणेश acts as विध्नहर्ता.

The part of the alimentary canal between the stomach and the anus is known as GUT. This is reservoir of microbes. Critical digestive processes happen here.

In Ayurveda, this place is considered as मूलाधार चक्र.गणपति resides here. Ayurveda considers body beyond physical body and energy layer is one of such layer, प्राणमय कोष. Energy @ मूलाधार चक्र is responsible for person’s intelligence, valor and many other traits. And Ganapati resides here. He controls all activities.

Now, modern science says, GUT is our second brain. 🙂 🙂 We use this second brain as gutter. We eat anything and everything. Creating highly polluted environment. So second brain hardly works. 🙂 🙂 😉 😛

Moral of the post: Do not make fun of your rituals under the influence of media, TV, Bollywood and some so called rational authors. If you do not understand a bit, still follow your culture. There are ample hidden benefits.

When you meditate on मूलाधार by chanting ganapati atharvashirsha, unique mental and physical state emerge. In modern science language, you actually help your second brain to work well.

Antibiotics disturbs this area most. This is the reason I advocate alternative use of controlling bacterial infection and not antibiotics. As it directly affect our emotions and thinking capacity.

Think Twice: How the Gut’s “Second Brain” Influences Mood and Well-Being

Technically known as the enteric nervous system, the second brain consists of sheaths of neurons embedded in the walls of the long tube of our gut, or alimentary canal, which measures about nine meters end to end from the esophagus to the anus. The second brain contains some 100 million neurons, more than in either the spinal cord or the peripheral nervous system, Gershon says.

This multitude of neurons in the enteric nervous system enables us to “feel” the inner world of our gut and its contents. Much of this neural firepower comes to bear in the elaborate daily grind of digestion. Breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and expelling of waste requires chemical processing, mechanical mixing and rhythmic muscle contractions that move everything on down the line.

Thus equipped with its own reflexes and senses, the second brain can control gut behavior independently of the brain, Gershon says. We likely evolved this intricate web of nerves to perform digestion and excretion “on site,” rather than remotely from our brains through the middleman of the spinal cord. “The brain in the head doesn’t need to get its hands dirty with the messy business of digestion, which is delegated to the brain in the gut,” Gershon says. He and other researchers explain, however, that the second brain’s complexity likely cannot be interpreted through this process alone.

“The system is way too complicated to have evolved only to make sure things move out of your colon,” says Emeran Mayer, professor of physiology, psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.). For example, scientists were shocked to learn that about 90 percent of the fibers in the primary visceral nerve, the vagus, carry information from the gut to the brain and not the other way around. “Some of that info is decidedly unpleasant,” Gershon says.

The second brain informs our state of mind in other more obscure ways, as well. “A big part of our emotions are probably influenced by the nerves in our gut,” Mayer says. Butterflies in the stomach—signaling in the gut as part of our physiological stress response, Gershon says—is but one example. Although gastrointestinal (GI) turmoil can sour one’s moods, everyday emotional well-being may rely on messages from the brain below to the brain above. For example, electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve—a useful treatment for depression—may mimic these signals, Gershon says.

Given the two brains’ commonalities, other depression treatments that target the mind can unintentionally impact the gut. The enteric nervous system uses more than 30 neurotransmitters, just like the brain, and in fact 95 percent of the body’s serotonin is found in the bowels. Because antidepressant medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) increase serotonin levels, it’s little wonder that meds meant to cause chemical changes in the mind often provoke GI issues as a side effect. Irritable bowel syndrome—which afflicts more than two million Americans—also arises in part from too much serotonin in our entrails, and could perhaps be regarded as a “mental illness” of the second brain.

Instead of taking shashtric reference and aligning our own version of गणपति based on health of मूलाधार, there is a trend to worship fake Gods in form of Ganesha. This is not just waste creative human potential but silent injection of vices associated with these fake Gods.

Worshiping false Gods/demigods by portraying Ganapati Idol in form of social celebrities, is nothing but a shortcoming of relatively weak societal psyche.

My culture teaches to put ideas/values/deeds/virtues above all immortals as ideas/values/deeds/virtues can only last forever.Ideas/values/deeds/virtues can’t survive more than a century (or may be few countable years) if demigods are at center of common man’s life.

Idols and paintings are harvests of reproductive energy/creativity/imagination. Reproductive energy depicts intuitive image of archetype characters. When an artist draw a picture of deity, it can be based on his own objective creativity or reproductive creativity. Those Ganesh idols, created by objective creativity, in form of cricketer, children or like, do not stand long in our memories. But those idols, created out of intuitive reproductive energy, live with us forever.

Majority Art-works are time-local reflection of eternity. They are time-local because they are hardly based on spiritual intuition. And so imperfections are natural. Those who use time-local art as yardstick, to justify/to judge eternal aspects, may reach to half-baked conclusions. Best use of such art-works of past ages, is to gather hints and apply them for current complex cultural jig-saw puzzles. Just hints, good or grotesque,no concrete conclusions. For eternal aspects, we have eternal idols.

Elephant -> Ganesh Idol with trunk -> मूर्ति पूजा और साधना -> Enhanced Breathing -> Enhanced senses -> जितेन्द्रिय -> Ability to sense electro-magnetic energy and sound -> Ability to predict impact of changing energy on organisms -> One can easily predict the future.

There are many aspects of Ganesh idol. One of them is trunk. There are two idols. Right side trunk idol and left side trunk idol.

Trunk represent that one must learn to do right and deep breathing. Breathing regulates Prana. Prana regulates life.

Right side trunk represent Surya Nadi focus. Left represents Chandra Nadi.

An idol of Ganapati with the trunk curved towards the right is called dakshinmurti or dakshi­nabhimukhi murti.one with an activated Surya nadi is also radiant. Thus in both senses, the Ganapati idol with the trunk curved towards the right is said to be ‘active (jagrut)’.

An idol of Ganapati with the trunk curved towards the left is called Vamamukhi. Vam means the northern direction or the left side.The Chandra nadi (Moon channel) is situated to the left. It bestows tranquility.

गणतंत्र should be led only by गणेश who has extraordinary sense for future.

Krushn is Ganesh, he could sense future and take decisions accordingly to sustain Dharma. Shivaji was Ganesh. Maharana Pratap was Ganesh.

We may not become Krushn or Shivaji but sure, we can become micro versions of Ganesh.

As per scriptures, देह-मध्य is where मूलाधार or abode of गणेश is. For humans, it is near GUT. For animals, in heart. For birds, in stomach. For trees, it is roots. For all living and non-living beings, देह-मध्य varies and so place of गणपति. Based on the place or the host, गणपति’s name, form, color, vehicle and decoration changes. So there are infinite forms of गणपति based on variations in प्राण combinations of each object (living or dead) has.

For trees, microbes play critical role at roots. For us, in GUT. This is no coincidence. Where there are मरुत गण, there is गणपति.

First and foremost thing we can do to Ganesh Pooja in human form is to maintain proper posture. 🙂 Right posture means stability of प्राण in देह-मध्य.

Second, we can keep our GUT clean. Modak made from Desi Cow ghee helps here in this season. 🙂

Note: देह-मध्य शुचिता (cleansing of center of the body) is important post-monsoon. We can prepare Modak (GUT cleaning mental and physical actions) for us but who will take care of trees and plants? Desi cow’s gobar, milk, ghee, mutra are their Modak.
