Life span is limited. Ideally, one can stretch it up to 100 years. With our present life style, it is shrunk to 60s or 70s. Keeping this limited life in mind, every year, Diwali presents us two options related to light/fire.
Be a oil lamp that consumes life’s impurities and spreads the light of knowledge – a life spent in search of self by different ways – research, reading, meditation, running, exercise, work, family etc.
Or be a burnt out matchstick – a state of mental and physical exhaustion caused by one’s professional life and its chronic stresses. Dead and gone in 60 seconds.
Work-life balance. An internal flame to improve self, to live pious life, to live life for self-realization, to live selfless life, to live healthy and happy life. Think about it. How do we want to live life?
Herbert Freudenberger, a New York psychoanalyst, coined the term “burnout syndrome” in the early 1970s to describe a state of mental and physical exhaustion caused by one’s professional life and its chronic stresses. In response to mounting task loads, the wretch piles on the hours at work, pulling late nights at the office, ignoring exercise, and skipping meals or eating unhealthful fast food on the run cancel personal commitments to family and friends. Sooner or later the work efficiency declines, with poor concentration, fewer creative ideas, self-dissatisfaction, and lagging self-esteem and anxiety about failure, and depression. Some may seek solace in alcohol or pills. Some even attempt suicide.
Herbert Freudenberger used this term to describe the consequences of severe stress and high ideals experienced by people working in “helping” professions. Doctors and nurses, for example, who sacrifice themselves for others, would often end up being “burned out” – exhausted, listless, and unable to cope. Nowadays, the term is not only used for these helping professions, or for the dark side of self-sacrifice. Anybody seems to be at risk: stressed-out careerists and celebrities, over-worked employees, or homemakers. “Burnout” has become a popular term.
Save yourself from being “burned out”. Happy Diwali.
We ,more or less, all are beasts in human form. Two qualities that restricts us becoming human are Anger and Lust. No worship, no meditation, no sadhana will bear fruits unless these two beasts are alive in you. Sacrifice them.

Although anger and lust can become active any time of the year, during monsoon, changes in our environment are such (mainly lack of Sun exposure) that they intensify these two beastly qualities. Observe around – why there are so many revolutions/agitations in the month of August. 🙂Why monsoon is deemed as season of lust by Bollywood? 🙂
It is स्वभाव or nature of this season (seasons when दक्षिणायन of the sun happen) to spur आसुरी शक्ति of human mind during this time.
And नवरात्रि is the time when we can worship eternal form of Energy to suppress beasts within.
In fact, there are 5 Navratri(s) in one year but we hardly pay attention to celebrate even two major Navratri(s) Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri.
Since परम्परा of identifying beasts like काम & क्रोध् and scarifying them for the greater good of the society does not happen, we have living beasts around. Pervert pedophiles to rapists to murderers to suicide attempters.
राम (ह्रदय सम्राट – अयोध्या निवासी – The one that rules our heart) – सीता ( शक्ति trapped in Muladhara chakra but freed by राम , हनुमान & वानरसेना ) , हनुमान & वानरसेना ( महाप्राण & मरुतगण i.e. micro organisms living in body) – they all together can control beasts of mind.

This physical world is sustained by food (Food, Water, Air). Those who are food givers in abundance, are actually doing प्राणदान. प्राणदान is most sublime giving. And so, being farmer who grows प्राणयुक्त food or being part of प्राणयुक्त food chain, is a great service to the society and sustenance of the world.
On the other hand, those who are promoting प्राणहर (That which consumes Prana of the food consumer) food (Chemically grown food), food price inflation and food profit, doing farming as a business, selling food, promoting farming as a business – They all are destructor of the world.
चण्डालो वा श्वपाको वा काले यः कश्चिदागतः।
अन्नेन पूजनीयः स्यात्परत्र हितमिच्छता।।
उचित समय पर अगर चंडाल या श्वपचभी आये तो गृहस्थको निश्चयही उनका अन्न समर्पित कर सत्कार करना चाहिए.
On timely arrival of even Chandal (Dead animal eaters) and Shvpacha (dog eaters), householder must welcome them by serving food.
Where is racism or casteism here?
If you don’t follow dharma, it is your fault! Don’t blame dharma scriptures for it!
And dharma bound duties are never stereotypes. They change with time, age, place and context.
About so called out-caste:
Yes, those who share the same living style, prefer to live together. It is for their benefit. It is for entire village’s benefits. There is no discrimination here. Even modern society prefer it. If there is any descrimination that you observe around you, it is certainly not the sign of Sanatana dharma and never prescribed as such!

‘‘प्रीति का निवास अधिकतर स्त्रियों में ही होता है। सन्तान की जननी भी वे ही होती हैं। धर्म स्त्रियों में रहता है, लक्ष्मी भी स्त्रियों में रहती है। इसलिए भी संसार स्त्रियों में ही स्थित है।’’
World exists due to love (प्रीति), procreation, dharma and wealth. So without worshiping her or she taking care of us (world/society/family), it is impossible.

जननी जन्म काले च स्नेह काले च कन्यका ।।
भार्या भोगाय सम्पृक्ता अन्तकाले च कालिका ।।
एकैव कालिका देवी विहरन्तो जगत्त्रये ॥

If शक्ति is not worshiped and revered, both in her divine form and human form, world will always remain devoid of धर्म,अर्थ,काम,मोक्ष. Without her blessings, it is impossible to imagine society at peace.
So I think it is futile exercise on female front to chase delusive gender equality. You are in fact the driver of the universe! Realize it!
On the other hand, males must surrender to mothers with reverence. Oppressing energy personified in human-form invites disasters. Mark my words.
And about seeking male child? That is modern pervert society. Ancient India never believed in such pervert ideas. Here are some notes from scriptures where Girl child is desired:
(1) Parents perform Kaamya-sraddhas on the second day of the moon in the hope of having a daughter.
(2) Desirous of having a daughter, the husband touches all the fingers of the wife except the thumb during the marriage ceremony.
(3) Longing for a daughter the bridegroom shows the bride after she has reached her new horme the Dhruva and other constellations.
(4) The parents deem it a favour of god if they can have sons as well as daughters by their side during the performance of sacrifices.
(5) The Rigveda praises the father of many daughters.
(6) The daughter claims her support from parents not for nothing, but for her devotion to them. They care for her as much as they do for their son; or it may be said-even more, as the father is found to worship the daughter (kumari) as an emblem of Virginity, as an emblem of Purity, of Tenderness. Devotion, and what not.
Friends and So-called friends call me food fanatic 🙂. Yes, some of them use word “Food terrorist” too. 😉😀 Of course, all behind the back 😛.

Here is my churning for altered self lately.
The word “धर्म” is most abused and convoluted word of the Sanskrit language.
First mistake we did was to translate धर्म as religion. धर्म is not religion.
There are many aspects of धर्म but the most critical one is to give support to life forms. To protect the life forms. Not only non-human life forms but human body itself which is complex billion+ life forms Nation (राष्ट्र) i.e body cells.
To live life as per धर्म means to protect the physical body and nurture it as long body supports your existence as “I”.
And by that definition, we all, more or less, are living अधार्मिक life i.e.not following duty towards billion+ body cells. The most neglected aspect of modern life is food. Food that nurtures and protects these billion+ live cells.
Food grown with chemicals, milk received by torture, processed meals and numerous such अधार्मिक practices.
Once we forget this fundamental धर्म, all chaotic events sprouts from it.
India, however, was not always like this. Indians in the past have laid extraordinary emphasis on growing food in abundance and sharing it in abundance. In fact, Indians, up to the present times, seem to have always looked upon an abundance of food as the primary condition of civilisation, and sharing of food was for us the primary discipline of civilised living. And indeed it is the discipline of civilised living that we call dharma.
The Taittiriyopanisad is a text of brahmavidya; its objective is to prepare the seeker for and lead him towards a darsana, immediate and direct vision, of Brahman, the creator who at the beginning manifests himself as the universe and retracts the whole of creation back into himself at the end, only to begin the process again, at the beginning of another cycle of creation and dissolution.
Here is what this text describes FOOD.
अन्नं बहु कुर्वीत। तद्व्रतम्।
Multiply anna many-fold. Ensure an abundance of food all around. That is the inviolable discipline of life for the one who knows.
अन्नं न निन्द्यात्। तद्व्रतम्।
Do not look down upon anna. That is the inviolable discipline of life for the one who knows.
अन्नं न परिचक्षीत। तद्व्रतम्।
Do not neglect anna. That is the inviolable discipline of life for the one who knows.
न कञ्चन वसतौ प्रत्याचक्षीत। तद्व्रतम्।
तस्माद्यया कया च विधया बह्वन्नं प्राप्नुयात्।
Do not turn away anyone who comes seeking your hospitality. This is the inviolable discipline of the one who knows. Therefore, obtain a great abundance of anna, exert all your efforts to ensure such abundance; and welcome all seekers with the announcement that the food is ready, partake of it.
Such is the discipline of abundance and sharing that the Taittiriyopanisad teaches. Such is the importance of growing and sharing food. Food for billions’ billion+ (all living organisms existence depend upon food).
So, food fanatic, I am (Y)🙂 .
Reason why we must respect our food.
Reason why we must give highest respect to farmers and consider their problems as ours.
Reason why we must become sensible about our food, everyone’s food.

There is age-old argument by meat consumers. Plants also have life.
Yes, true. They too are living beings. So, it is important to treat them like living beings.
Pluck not the growing flower or a fruit at the beginning of growth. And never destroy or uproot them ever like you kill animals.
Pluck the dead ones or almost on death-bed. And before plucking, get a permission from Vanaspti devata.
A truly devout Hindu would never ever heedlessly injure the slightest object that had life. Slaughter is a distant reality. A tree is as much a manifestation of the divine wisdom as the man himself is. Devas engaged equally in the creation process of a flower, fruits and other parts of the trees.
When we through thoughtlessness or ignorance or arrogance of being superior organism, injures these divine works, incurs anger and the ill-will of elemental workers (Devas).
Therefore, a Hindu (=Dharmik) in plucking a flower or cutting a twig, prays to the supreme and asks the permission of the industrious devata(s) who have manifested divine wisdom in different forms. He does not only recognize divine labour and appreciate their work but also asks for goodwill and blessings.
आयुर्बलं यशो वर्चः प्रजा: पशुन् वसूनि च।
बह्म प्रज्ञां च मेधां च त्वं नो देहि वनस्पते॥
“O’ Forest Lord! Give us long life, strength, fame, with Brahma, lustre, progeny, cattle and riches too. Give us O’ lord supreme! Wisdom, divine and intelligence!”
Every morning begins by chanting this during teeth cleaning using twig.
Habits changed with time. Twig was replaced by dead toothpaste and plastic brush. Chanting forgotten. With time progression, due to disconnect from mother nature, we became insensitive at core.
Result? Rampant killings, of both humans and animals. Least we consider plants and trees here. There is no scope for prayer and respect in animal slaughter or cutting trees. Yes, uprooting jungles is same as animal slaughter for me. Living animal and live tree – both are wealth generators. When dead, they are curse to repay for many births.
There is a solution. Bring back old habits back in routine. Teach your kids to recite above mantra before plucking anything from plants and trees. Use twigs for teeth cleaning. Recite this mantra.

Vidyaranya Swami (1296-1386) a distinguished scholar, spiritual guide of great eminence and a sage lived in 13-14 Th centuries in Karnataka state of India. He was born on 11 April, 1296 to Mayanacharyulu (A distinguished scholar of Vedas) and SriMati Devi. His original name was Madhavarya. Vidyaranya and his brothers initially received education from his father and subsequently left home to learn from another teacher. He was known as Vidyaranya after his renunciation in 1331. He is well known for his most scholarly works on Vedas and other scriptures that are treated as authority.
His role in arresting Islamisation of South India was very great.
13 Th century was full of events and Delhi sultans of Khilji and Tughlaq dynasties led many campaigns of war against South India and destroyed then existing and flourishing south Indian Hindu Kingdoms as a policy in fact. It was the period in which the ruling Muslim kings at Delhi and their governors followed a policy of conversion, repression, murder, mayhem, rape, destruction of Hindu temples, holy places, scriptures and persecution of Hindus in India.
Kakateeya Kindom that flourished in Andhra Pradesh at Warangal (Orugallu) for many centuries was finally destroyed by Mohammed Bin Tughlaq ( Juna Khan) ( 1325-1355) in 1323 after repeated raids and bitter fights in which Kakateeya valiant King Pratapa Rudra lost the war and was captured. It is also believed that caste feelings among the commanders of Kaakateeya Army resulted in the defeat of the kingdom. Pratapa rudra committed suicide by jumping into river Narmada ( some say Godavari) while being taken away to Delhi to ward off dishonor and with this, glory of this empire faded away. There is some dispute about his suicide and existing ballads indicate that he was rescued by his clever minister Yougandharayana and brought back to his state. However the kingdom could not be revived to past glory and soon the State disintegrated (1).
Similarly, the neighboring Kampili kingdom of Jambukeswara (Kampiliraya) in Anegondi was invaded on the pretext of harboring a rebel and destroyed by Tughlaq and the brave king died valiantly on the battle field fighting for his honor and the country. His two ministers Harihara and brother Bukka raya (Formerly in the service of Pratapa rudra) were held prisoners and were taken to Delhi and were forced to convert. They were sent back to their kingdom to rule Anegondi as governors and bring order there as it was in turmoil because revolts surfaced. Soon, the brothers converted to Hinduism and declared their freedom, once central rule became ineffective (2).
These two versatile brothers came in contact with Saint Vidyaranya and were greatly influenced by his radiant personality. Vidyaranya realized the need to protect Hinduism from the marauding Muslim rulers and their aggression in south India and he inspired the two brothers to build a city and to establish a Hindu kingdom at a particular place. Vidyaranya on earlier occasion watched some hares chasing away hunting dogs (wild dogs) on this site and he realized that the place had great potential to build an empire that would withstand Muslim invasions and persecutions in years to come. He realized that on this ground, the hunters would be hunted soon. It is believed that Swami Vidyaranya found a great dump of treasure while excavating and this wealth was used to build the city. Soon, the city of Vijayanagar surfaced at the place and this kingdom was established in 1336 and it flourished by leaps and bounds in a course of time. Kings from generation to generation withstood the onslaught of Muslim invasions and their persecution of Hindus for more than three hundred long years.
It’s might was destroyed by the combined armies of South Indian Muslim states Bijapur, Bidar, Giaconda and Ahmednagar (Birar did not take part in the war) at Tallikota battle fought on 25 December 1564. Araveeti (aliya) Rama Raya the defacto emperor of Vijaynagar led the battle agsint the Muslim army. Sadsivarayalu was the actual emperor. The battle was ferocious and the scales were tilting in favor of Hindu army when the Muslim commanders in the army of Vijaynagar committed treason and switched over to the combined Muslim armies of the Sultans along with their troops. Rama raya lost the day and was captured and killed immediately. There is a saying that any thing rising has to come down. The cities of Vijaynagar and Hampi were ransacked by the victorious Muslim armies. Earlier the royal families left the city for Penukonda with treasures leaving the people to their fate. Muslim troops stayed in the city for five months and destroyed and burnt everything by burning and breaking with hammers and crow bars with vengeance. The ferocity of destruction has no parallel and was unwarranted. No other proof in this world is required for the Hindu hatred among Muslims in the bye gone years. They killed innumerable people without discrimination. With this, the cities lost all its glory. The capital was changed to Penukonda (Anantapur District) and to Chandragiri (Chittoor District). The Vijayanagar Empire although survived for another 80 years lost its glory and faded into pages of history in 1646 plagued by feuds in dynastic succession by the short sighted rulers, treason by the vassals and rift between the minor principalities that ruined cohesion. Its last ruler was Sri Rangaraya III who in spite of valiant efforts failed to stem the rot. His vassals betrayed him. The Empire ceased to exist in 1646. Sri Ranga III probably died in 1680 devoid of empire. South India was thus saved from Islamisation by the kings of Vijayanagar. Hampi and Vijayanagar are now in ruins and are world heritage sites (3). The history of Vijaynagar gathered dust and people completely forgot about the empire till Robert Sewell, the former District collector of Bellary during the British rule gathered information on the empire and wrote the famous outstanding book, “The forgotten Empire”. He did a pioneering work and world is indeed is indebted to him. It is a shame and utter disgrace that Indians forgot about their own once glorious empire and had to be told by a European about their own history. It is believed that Swami Vidyaranya predicted at the time of building the city of Vijayanagar that the empire that is being established would last for three centuries. His prediction came true and the empire vanished after three centuries.
Swami Vidyaranya guided the destiny of the kingdom after its formation and he was the advisor to the kings Harihara Raya and Bukka Raya. He was a great historical personality who influenced course of South Indian history at a most crucial time.

It was saint (Sant) Ramdas who lived in Maharshtra State and was the spiritual guide to Chhatrapati ( King of Kings) Shivaji who was inspired by the saint and established an independent Hindu Maratha kingdom in Maharshtra under the very nose of evil emperor Aurangzeb in the 17 th century. He protected Hindu faith from the marauding Mughals and saved Hindus from persecution and forced conversions in those evil years. Maratha Empire grew to great heights in a course of few years and was in a position to even dictate terms to Mughals who by this time became weak in 18 th century. Marathas were a great bottle neck for the spread of influence of East India Company in India till they were defeated in third Panipat war (1761) by the forces of Afghan ruler Ahmed Shah Abdali Durrani. Shivaji Maharaj (Great king) is very greatly revered in India and is considered as the incarnation of Lord Shiva (14).Sant Ramdas and Swami Vidyaranya are comparable in Indian History towards their commitment for protection and revival of Hinduism and faith in the face of low Hindu morale and severe persecution by Muslims.
Swami Vidyaranya wrote many scholarly books that are considered authority in Hindu philosophical literature and these are (5) :
1. Jeevanmukti vivekamu (A treatise on salvation)
2.Anubhhoti prakashamu ( Explanation for many Upanishads)
3.Sangeeta saram ( A treatise on Indian classical music)
4.Sankara digvijayamu ( Life history of Sankaracharya)
5.Jaiminiyenyamala ( Elaboration on Dwadasa lakshani written by sage Jaimini )
6.Vivarana prameya sangraha. (Commentary on Vivarana written by sage
Prakashatma and on Pancha padeeka written by Sri Padmapadacharyudu who was
disciple of Adi Sankaracharya)
8.Panchadasi( A treatise on Adwaita Philosophy)
9.Brihadaranya virikasaramu ( A treatise and commentary on the commentary
written by Sri Sureswara ( Ist Disciple of Sankaracharya) on Briharanyakopanishad
which is an important source for Adwaita philosophy
10 . Prayaschitta Suddhanidhi ( A treatise on aspects of ill conduct by men that lead
to downfall and poverty and degradation)

The magnum opus of Vidyaranya was the explanations for Vedas which no one has undertaken including Adi Sankaracharya and this is known as Sayana veda Bhashyam. Vidyaranya Swami identified causes for Hindu down fall as a result of interaction with Islam and these are explained in the great book Prayaschitta Suddhanidhi ( A treasure of atonement for the sins). He realized the importance and need for revitalizing the Hindus and build faith and inspire them about their own religion. He fore saw that unless they were fully aware of the greatness of their religion, they would be attracted towards Islam. Writing of Veda Bhashyam was an effort towards this. He identified 14 evil acts and sins of greatest magnitude that result in down fall, degradation, sickness, ailments and loss of wealth, defeat hands and finally death at the hands of enemies. These are (6) :
1.Physical union with menstruating women
2.Tasting the food eaten by menstruating women
3.Physical union with widows
4.Physical union with unmarried girls
5.Moving around with people who have left the right path and leading a wayward life
6.Moving with completely fallen men and sleeping with them
7.Eating in the same plate with people described above
8.Touching female genitals with tongue
9.Oral sex by men and women
10.Taking away the property of temples
11.Taking away the properties of Brahmins and learned men
12.Accepting rewards and gifts from people who live by the acts described above.
13. Accepting prohibited goods
14.Eating evil food and making mockery of those who lead pious lives
People who resort to above would loose their wealth and soon would be victims of ailments such as Heart problems, Diabetes, Stomach ailments, ulcers, Piles, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Oral cancer and many life threatening ailments. The book reveals how the Hindu commanders, leaders and kings were given to unnatural bad habits in company of Muslim prostitutes, women of easy virtue, notch girls and dancers in those days that resulted in the down fall of Hindus and how they lost their power, kingdoms and lives at the hands of enemies. Swami Vidyaranya in his book also gave the requirement of following certain rituals to overcome such evil effects.
Swami Vidyaranya who was committed to revival of Hindu spirit guided King Bukkaraya as his prime Minister in 1356 and guided the destiny of the kingdom in the formative years and in 1372 retired from political activities and concentrated in spiritual activities as Head of Sringeri religious Establishment. He passed away in 1386 after a glorious life and his role has been written in golden pages of Indian History. His memory has become immortal through his scholarly writings and contribution in building Hindu resistance against Muslim persecution in the most crucial years.

In Sanatana dharma, your occupation is for your salvation. All had equal opportunities based on their proclivity.
We have turned साहित्य into cheap Chetan Bhagat type novels, संगीत into degenerative chaos and कला as Bollywood. And so there is no peace and salvation in the society.
In reality, we all are not Brahmin, Vaishya, Kshtriya or Shudra. 🙂 Mleccha is the term. Confused and not focused. Engineers go for MBA. MBA starts selling vegetables. Doctors run restaurants. 😀 Together, we appreciate cheap attempts of cricket and Bollywood as art! 😀😉 Claps!
There was no growth and GDP but there was peace and stability. 🙂 We now have GDP and growth but no peace. Think about it. What type of world we are planning to give as legacy? Not even 1% improvement?
World Hunger is real but solution for it, is not only faulty but disastrous.
Certain nutrients only exist in complex forms. If bacteria are missing in soil, we will never get them in crops. Chemical fertilizers, pesticides devastates microbial activity and so we never get them.
World Hunger has only one solution. Gau mata. Her Prasad is so powerful that it can turn desert into fertile land.
Are the fruits and veggies we eat today less nutritious than they were years ago? The answer is yes, and the reasons why lie in how we farm.
The next question you might have is how bad is it? Well, it depends. Some studies have found median declines in mineral composition between 5 percent to 40 percent in vegetables.
The difference is in the methods we use to farm, Davis reported: “Efforts to breed new varieties of crops that provide greater yield, pest resistance, and climate adaptability have allowed crops to grow bigger and more rapidly, but their ability to manufacture or uptake nutrients has not kept pace with their rapid growth.”
Farms that use high-yield plants may get more crops, but all that energy going toward a bigger bounty results in a shallower root system, which means less mineral absorption.
If you want quality fruits and veggies, you may have to look to local markets where the price per piece of food may be higher, but the quality of food may also be better. If these markets aren’t available to you the solution is simple: Eat more fruits and vegetables.
In Indian parlance, there is only one way : Promote Cow-based farming.

Declining Fruit and Vegetable Nutrient Composition: What Is the Evidence?
Three kinds of evidence point toward declines of some nutrients in fruits and vegetables available in the United States and the United Kingdom: 1) early studies of fertilization found inverse relationships between crop yield and mineral concentrations—the widely cited “dilution effect”; 2) three recent studies of historical food composition data found apparent median declines of 5% to 40% or more in some minerals in groups of vegetables and perhaps fruits; one study also evaluated vitamins and protein with similar results; and 3) recent side-by-side plantings of low- and high-yield cultivars of broccoli and grains found consistently negative correlations between yield and concentrations of minerals and protein, a newly recognized genetic dilution effect. Studies of historical food composition data are inherently limited, but the other methods can focus on single crops of any kind, can include any nutrient of interest, and can be carefully controlled. They can also test proposed methods to minimize or overcome the diluting effects of yield whether by environmental means or by plant breeding.
